ACADEMICS AND VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTION

At Youth Opportunity, we believe education is a vital part of healing and growth. Our academic and vocational programs are designed to meet each student where they are, providing flexible and supportive pathways to success.

Instruction may take place on campus in dedicated classrooms, through partnerships with local school districts, or via accredited online platforms—ensuring continuity in learning no matter the setting.

In addition to core academics, we offer vocational training and life skills development to help youth build confidence and prepare for meaningful futures beyond our programs.

Tennessee Education Program

Our education program is designed to meet each student’s individual academic needs while maintaining alignment with their home school district. Students attend classes Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, grouped with peers from their living unit. All earned credits transfer back to their home school, ensuring academic continuity.

We emphasize respect, responsibility, and active participation. Students are expected to attend regularly, engage in learning, complete assignments, and contribute to a positive classroom environment. Enrollment is completed within 72 hours of intake through the Tennessee Department of Children Services Enrollment Form.

Standardized assessments—including Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP), Civics, and the ACT—are administered in accordance with Tennessee Department of Education guidelines. High school students work toward meeting graduation requirements set by the Tennessee State Board of Education, preparing them for success beyond the classroom.

Michigan Education Program

In Michigan, educational services at Osceola and River Oak are provided through the Evart Public School System, ensuring students receive a consistent and accredited education.

At New Hope, students attend local public schools, giving them the opportunity to learn alongside their peers in a traditional academic setting. This approach supports academic growth, social development, and smooth reintegration into their home school communities.

Florida Education Program

Most of our Florida facilities partner with Florida Scholars Academy (FSA) and Florida Virtual School (FLVS) to deliver personalized, high-quality education tailored to each student’s needs.

Florida Scholars Academy offers in-person instruction focused on helping students earn a high school diploma or equivalency, gain career credentials, and prepare for college or technical school.

Florida Virtual School provides flexible, online learning with certified teachers, offering over 200 courses and engaging programs for K–12 students. FLVS also supports schools statewide with digital learning solutions and educator training.

Together, FSA and FLVS provide flexible, future-focused education that prepares students for academic success, careers, and lifelong learning.

Brooksville Youth Academy Education Program

At Brooksville Youth Academy, our Education Department delivers a well-rounded, student-focused learning experience designed to promote both academic success and personal growth. We prioritize meaningful teacher-student engagement, moving beyond computer-based instruction to foster real connections and individualized support.

Our certified educators create a positive, structured environment where students feel encouraged and empowered to learn. With small class sizes and personalized instruction, we help students overcome challenges, build confidence, and stay on track toward graduation.

We offer a full academic curriculum including core subjects, career and technical education (CTE), and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students can pursue a high school diploma or GED through flexible, goal-oriented learning plans tailored to their needs and pace.

Special education services are integral to our approach. Our team provides targeted interventions and accommodations to support diverse learning needs, including credit recovery, foundational skill-building, and behavioral support.

In addition to traditional academics, students engage in monthly STEM projects and cultural initiatives that bring learning to life. These hands-on experiences build problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking skills while fostering social awareness and creativity.
